HOTLINE O24

Hotline 024 is a Friday Night Funkin' mod created by Saruky and the team behind another project called Potions n' Spices. The story of Hotline 024 follows Nikku, an alien outlaw that crash landed onto Earth and is on the run from some crazy scientists that did experiments on her. Except it isn't that simple. Nikku is acually a part of a seperate, more complex story called Sunset Hills. But we aren't gonna talk about that because it's gonna take too long and also the story is lowkey confusing and I haven't put it all together myself. It's one of those ARG type deals where you gotta find clues and shit to unlock everything. But perhaps I'll make a separate shrine for that.

Hotline 024 promo art

Because Hotline 024 doesn't have much of story since current it's just a bunch of random one-off songs, I'll just get into the songs and what not.

FREEPLAY: THE MAIN COURSE

Freeplay is the like the story mode of this mod. Usually a mod would be like songs in story mode and then all the extra stuff in freeplay but in this mod storymode is locked and all the main songs are in freeplay.

Songs in order:

  1. Broadcasting✮
  2. Mirror Magic
  3. Fandomania
  4. Killer Queen
  5. Hyperfunk ✮✮
  6. Sugarcrash ✮
  7. Smokebomb
  8. Overdrive
  9. Expurgated

Broadcasting

Broadcasting is the first song and it is literally the BEST first impression of ANY FNF mod EVER. It comes out SLAMMING. It does not mess around. It is a fucking amazing song and is easily one of the best ones. It is very noisy, but luckily for me I love sounds. This song really shows you the mayhem that you're getting yourself into. Chart wise, it's pretty difficult, but I found it fun.

Mirror Magic

Mirror Magic is a pretty good one. It is not my favorite, but I do like it a lot. It isn't very difficult either. In this song we get introduced Nikku's mimicking ability where she can copy voices and she copies a few voices from iconic mods. This voice effect is gonna be used in a loooot more songs from this point on. But yeah good song. I don't play it enough to comment on the chart but im sure it's fine lol.

Fandomania

Fandomania is a pretty easy one. Well easy in Hotline 024 standards, and this mod is not very easy lol. But to me, this is one of the easiest in the mod. It's pretty repetetive, but it's a good, simple song.

Killer Queen

The Jojo song. I don't know shit about Jojo, but this is a damn good song. Plus it comes with a free Jojo skin. This song is another easy one imo, but it's still enjoyable. I don't have much to say bout it.

Hyperfunk

Hyperfunk. Now. I can't express to you how much I love this song. Outside of FNF this has unironically become one of my favorite songs of ALL TIME. It's so crazy, so wacky, so fun and so noisy I just love it. And best of all, it's fucking HARD. I would go as far as to say it is definetley one of the hardest in the whole mod. But I love that. It's just a really great sound with lots of cool twists and turns and man. I don't know how to describe music, but this song grabs you in the first second and you know you're in for a ride once that beat drops.

Sugarcrash

Yet another favorite and definetly the wackiest, craziest, and NOISIEST song in the mod. It is the best shitpost fnf song ever. It's like a shit ton of memes and samples with Nikku and Boyfriend occasionally chiming in. Every time you listen to or play it you'll probably hear a new one reference you didn't hear the first time. This one, though being crazy and noisy, isn't as difficult as Hyperfunk, but it still a good amount of difficult.

Smokebomb

Smokebomb is fine. I think I've only ever played it once honestly lol. It's very slow and easy. It's like a break from all the loud, crazy shit. But I think loud crazy shit is what makes this mod great so this is one of my least favorites.

Overdrive

Overdrive is loosely based off the song from Vs. Whitty Overhead (which is a bomb ass song btw, pun intended). For like 90% of the song Nikku mimicks Whitty voice. I don't know why there is a Whitty song, but it is a damn good one. Chart wise, it's not too hard, but it's still an enjoyable play.

Expurgated

Like how there is a random Whitty song, there is also a random Tricky song, specifically based on the song Expurgation (the best FNF song of all time btw shut up you're wrong if you don't agree). My only complaint about this song is that it literally doesn't really reference Expurgation enough. But anyways, it's one of those fnf songs where it's like a huge love letter and references a bunch of OG and iconic fnf songs and mods. I love those types of songs. Chart wise, honestly, I've only played it twice because it's so damn long (6 minutes) so I don't know it's probably good lol.

Extras

Now we get into the fun stuff. Because this is just extra content, the paragraphs will not be very long and I'm just gonna speedrun the rest of these sections.

Momo & Gogo Heart Forecast - Soda Disco Funk

This is I think the only song I can confidently say I don't like so I'm not even gonna talk about it lol. Just not very fun and I don't like the vocals.

Date at the end of the world - Armaggedon ✮

Another song that is just my absolute favorite. Here we play as Nikku and we sing a duet with her boyfriend Rude#1. I could talk about him, but I don't feel like it. 10/10 song, everything about it slaps and it's a good amount of difficult.

Covers - Thunderstorm

A cover of the the song Thunderstorm from the VS. Shaggy mod, where Nikku switches between her voice and Shaggy's. Definetly the best cover out of the bunch, plus its super fun to play.

Covers - CG Megamix

A mini mash up of all the songs from the Cassette Girl mod. Another slow one like Smokebomb, so yk I'm not a fan of this one. Which is funny because I love every sing song from the Cassete Girl mod.

Covers - Promenade

A cover of Promenade from FNF Entity (rest in piss that shit got cancelled i'm p sure). Don't have much to say about this one other than it's good.

Covers - Deathmatch

I think the og is from idk the FNF Corrupted series? Idk anything bout that shit. Yeah I've only played this one once and it's at the bottom of the list. i don't hate it but I'm probably never gonna play it again lol.

We Are Here To Help

These are the songs that you access from the little padlock in the "Extras" section. In order to play these songs, you have to enter a code in the number pad thing. I'm gonna speedrun through these aswell.

Song & Codes in Order:

  1. 2448 - Nightland ✮
  2. 5141 - Uncanny Valley
  3. 2020 - Extraterrestrial
  4. 2151 - Satellite Picnic ✮
  5. 1921 - Sussy Pussy
  6. 1391 - Close Chuckle
  7. 8989 - Deep Poems ✮
  8. 6120 - Fun Is Infinite ✮

2119 - Astral Projection

Screenshot of the Astral Projection level

One of the last songs is not as easy to obtain like the other songs. This is where we are introduced to the ARG elements of the mod. to get to the last song, Astral Projection, you have to got through a series of codes and even the game files. In this song you battle Nikku's mom, Matzushii. I really don't feel like getting into her involvement because this is all Sunset Hills at this point, but long story short, her mom is a bit crazy.

This is a very good song, but it is a damn hard one. The arrows are in the same layout as they are in Uncanny Valley which is where it's difficulty comes from. I'm sure if the layout was normal this would be around the same difficulty as all the others.

Why I Love Hotline 024

This has some of the most unique music from any fnf mod ever. Saruky doesn't try to sound like Kawai Sprite, she just does her own thing and the result is insane in the best way possible. There is not a single mod that could top the music in Hotline. Also the visuals and shit yk all that's great too lol. Every song has a unique background, the are many cool quirks about it like the skin selects and the codes and Armaggedon and Hyperfunk simply just existing. It doesn't try to be over the top with it's visuals or mechanics or have all this crazy stuff. It knows how to be good without trying to fight for the attention with the other mods that are all trying to be different and over the top. It's good because the people who made know how to make good shit.

If you like noisy music and funky rhythm games you should check this one out!
